One Year (Wohoo!) Studio Giveaway

*Congratulations to Sean Payne on winning this year's Studio Giveaway!*

Jones Gallery has been open for one year. (It was actually one year last month, but I forgot - too busy working on the super-secret project!). And to celebrate, and to thank everyone for their encouragement and support, I'm having a One-Year-Studio-Giveaway! Yay! Here is how it works:

1. Tell me what you visually dig about Saint John. So what is the most interesting street? House? Industrial bit? Tankers? Graffiti? Extra points if you say you like Courtenay Bay.

2. Leave your comments here on the blog OR become a fan and post a comment on my Facebook page:

That's it. That's all you have to do. And then I will enter you in a draw to win THIS PAINTING (value $500):

Fire Escapes in Uptown Saint John, S. Jones, oil on canvas, 12x36 in.I'll be making the draw on Friday, February 25th, at 6 p.m. - that's the night of the first Uptown Saint John Gallery Hop, and I'll be launching my new show that evening 5-8 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come. There will probably be cookies.

Good luck! Post lots! And thanks again to everyone for supporting me and the studio for the past year. You're awesome.

Courtenay Bay of course! but I lived in Champlain Heights in my early years and it was always interesting to see the big tanks with the I R V I N G letters on them at the Refinery (on the odd day that the fog wasn't covering them!) Love your work - Nancy

The Irving Nature Park holds a special place in my heart. I have spent a lot of time there, and even got married there. It's a gem. I also love Germain street, I live there and couldn't imagine living on any other street in the city!

Happy 1 year!! That's so exciting!
After a long trip I always love coming home to SJ, heading over the Harbour Bridge and seeing the first glimpse of our uptown waterfront. Especially at night. Then I know I'm home.

Favorite visual in SJ - 1 Princess Street, something about that rounded corner building.

Congrats Sarah! Happy Anniversary!

I am absolutely in love with the basics of this City - fire hydrants, manholes, street lamps and traffic lights!

Oh yeah, the Courtenay Bay is pretty great, too :)

Happy anniversary, Sarah! I love so much about this city but one of my favourite streets in all of SJ has to be a little narrow street called Duncraggen in Mount Pleasant. It is this secret little knoll in the middle of the city, kind of like hiding in a treehouse, except the treehouses are worth in excess of half-a-mil!

Isn't SJ filled with spectacular scenery? I'm fascinated by the way industry mixes seamlessly throughout the city. Our infrastructure provides no shortage of interest too, particularly the series of overpasses that stitch the otherwise bisected city together. The Reversing Falls Bridge joins two halves too, gracefully braced above the rapids. That is my all-time favourite location in Saint John - The Reversing Falls, with its bridge(s), swirling waters and the pulp mill, which I once described to a visiting friend as very beautiful when regarded geometrically. I would love to see your interpretations of the Reversing Falls area.

Congratulations on year one! And may there be many more to come.

I love Douglas Ave. When I used to ride the school bus down that street I would always look at all the old houses! It is my favorite street!

I love all of uptown Saint John but King St on a sunny day has to be my favorite!

another giveaway!! first with barb, now here?! this is amazing. my favourite visual place in saint john... I think it would have to be just the uptown area in general for all the brick, the fire escapes, the rust... I like the fire escape on the corner of trinity gallery on princess in particular... so fun for taking pictures! in behind the old tapps bar too.. that little parking lot area.. lots of fun corners and angles and old looking things. :)

The architechture of all the beautiful buildings on Germain Street is my favourite in Saint John.
I am from Fredericton and we just don't have anything like all that brick. In the summer the contrast with the gorgeous green patches and foliage warms my heart! Visually it is so striking!

Looking up when walking to Alley Gria.. the mesh of fire escapes .. red bricks .... and blue skies.
I also have to agree with Meghan, the architecture on Germain is iconic to uptown saint john.

My favourite spot in Saint John are the rocks between McLaren's beach and Duck Cove beach when the tide is going out.

Happy Anniversary, Sarah!

I have many favs in SJ. I *do* love Courtenay Bay Causeway for a variety of reasons too long to list, but one reason is the views of the dramatic gothic churches (esp. gothic arches and the cathedral uptown) amongst the residential edifices, with the potash train in contrast. I also love the soaring feeling of crossing the harbour bridge entering town east-bound and viewing the city and active port.
