Art in Paris: Politics, Protests, and Artists Who Paint and Occasionally Throw Bricks. Saint John Arts Centre, Wednesday, November 24, 6:30-9:00 p.m., $20. Contact SJAC at 633-4870 to register.

Join artist and art historian Sarah Jones for an informal lecture on the art of nineteenth-century France – Romanticism, Realism and Impressionism. Learn about the French Academy’s iron-fisted hold on art production against the backdrop of the stormy French politics of the 1800s, and how the new young artists like Courbet, Manet, and Monet defied the system and launched a controversial new era of art.
